Maybe you’re someone who doesn”t care what your MLM product is because you can sell anything – ice cubes to Eskimos, as the saying goes. Or maybe you don’t like to sell things at all. Doesn’t matter. There is a place for both types in the Network Marketing business model. But what’s really important is whether people will continue to buy your MLM product when you are not there.

Why Is Your MLM Product Important?

Talking about MLM products will force us to begin at the beginning. Why did you join an MLM? The absolute number one reason to join an MLM is residual income. Getting paid now and into the future for a sale you made in the past is a great place to be. Don’t believe it? Ask your insurance agent; that’s how they get paid. And where does your residual income come from? Your MLM product – people buying those products over and over, month after month. That’s why most successful MLM companies offer consumable products. It could be a service – legal services come to mind – but an MLM product that people use and buy again is much more common.

What Makes An MLM Product Good?

First of all, there should be a demand for the MLM product. Pretty simple stuff, but you have to wonder about some of the things you see out there. Make sure the product is not only something others would use, but that it is something you would use. If you won’t use your own MLM product, why should someone else? Is it a luxury product or more of an everyday thing? Remember that people buy everyday things even when the economy is down. Think of a typical MLM product and you probably think about health products. The product must also work. It must actually do what the sales literature and the website say it will do. Your customer must feel he/she is getting their money’s worth. Naturally, this brings us to price. We’ll open that can of worms in a minute. Here is the point. Ultimately everything is based on the MLM product. Not the MLM company, but the product. Not your MLM marketing system, but the MLM product. Not your presentation skills, but the product. Your presentation might be good enough to turn a mafia hit man into a mound of quivering jello. Your marketing system might bring in leads by the truckload. But if customers won’t continue to buy your MLM product, you are a statistic.

MLM Products And Pricing

OK, let’s talk price. There is a belief out there that every MLM product is overpriced. That they have extra margin built in so that a whole downline of people will be able to make some money. Can I honestly say that has never happened? No, I can’t say that. But not all MLM products are overpriced. If you are selling a health and wellness product for $80, and something very similar is selling in a store for $40, you better be able to justify the difference. I’m not saying it can’t be justified, but this is where the real selling begins. People will often pay more for a higher quality product. How much more? Depends. How much more would you pay? Look at how many people outside the business are buying the MLM company’s products. If it is a lot of people, that’s good. It is a company that understands residual income. Obviously the best MLM product is one that is widely used by people who are not in the MLM business.

The MLM Product Puzzle

You have to figure out the “MLM product” puzzle before you choose a company. What are you comfortable with? What are you not comfortable with? Look at several. Ask questions. If you are not getting answers, maybe that’s an answer in itself. Remember the MLM product comes first.
